The Higher Education Commission, HEC has announced to conduct an Undergraduate Studies Admission Test (USAT) 2021. As per the advertisement issued by HEC, USAT is for admissions in bachelor’s programs for all universities across the country. Education Testing Council, ETC will conduct the USAT Entrance Test.
The USAT will cover all the disciplines at the undergraduate level. The new USAT has been introduced at a time when many universities have started their admissions and held their own entrance tets. This new USAT test announcement has created a lot confusion among students that whether it is compulsory for all students or not. The advertisement issued by HEC says that universities can continue their admissions independently. It means that it is upon universities whether they want to add this test to their admission policy or not.

Eligibility Criteria
- Students who have passed their HSSC (Intermediate) exam or equivalent degree
- Students who have appeared in the HSSC exam and now waiting for the result.
USAT Test Patten
PART I
- Number of test items (75 MCQs) –
- Time allowed 100 minutes
- Verbal reasoning: 35
- Quantitative reasoning: 40
PART II
- Time allowed 40 minutes
- Essay writing skills 400-500 words (either in English or Urdu): 25
Any score above and equal to 50 will be considered as a qualifying USAT score. The maximum anyone can score on USAT would be the perfect score of 100.
The test is initially proposed on a quarterly basis in the major cities of Pakistan to be held simultaneously. More tests can however be arranged if the need existed. The yearly test calendar will be uploaded on the ETC website and candidates may register themselves through the online registration portal.
Registration and Test Date
The last date of registration for USAT 2021 is 30 August 2021. HEC will conduct the USAT 2021 on 12 September 2021.
How to Apply for HEC USAT 2021
1- For registration, please visit the following link: http://etc.hec.gov.pk
2- Application Submission comprises of two steps:
- Profile completion using the “My Profile” section.
- Application submission using “Undergraduate Studies Admission Test” links on the menu panel on the left-hand sidebar of the online portal.
Only SUBMITTED applications will be considered for USAT Test and applications in SAVE or INCOMPLETE mode will not be entertained.
USAT Test Fee
The test fee for Undergraduate Studies Admission Test (USAT) is PKR 1,200/- per candidate. Candidates will deposit the fee amount in Habib Bank Limited Account no. 1742 7900 1334 01. Title of Account: Higher Education Commission.
Note: Applicants are required to send a copy of Fee Deposit Slip/ATM/Online transfer through courier at the address: Member’s house, HEC Sector H-8, Islamabad on before the last date of registration. The test fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Q: Is USAT compulsory?
Ans: As of now, it is not compulsory as mentioned in the advertisement that universities can conduct their admissions independently. In case they need some admission test, they can go for HEC USAT, but it is totally up to them.
Q: Which universities are accepting USAT?
Ans: As of now, no university has announced that it will be granting admissions based on USAT. As soon as any university announces, we will update it here. Most of the universities have already taken their tests. Maybe this test can be a part of future admissions in the universities.

Now, if you are aspiring to take admission in any BS program in any of universities, please confirm about USAT from that university first. If the university is allowing admissions without USAT, you don’t have to apply for it. That’s it.
As per our knowledge, we haven’t heard of any university which has placed compulsion of USAT. Unless you ask the university you are applying for, don’t apply for USAT.
